Music industry in need of reality check

There has been much whining over recent years from some in the music industry that illegal downloading is killing the trade. But that is not very accurate and as South Park tried to point out is more based upon greed rather than being able to earn a decent living. Now it would seem that chart sensation Eliza Doolittle would agree with the fact of the matter being that the record sales are not the main source of income for any aspiring pop star.

In a recent interview she said “I would really love to make a living out of it (music) and a comfortable living if I can but it is hard these days.” Going on to say “You don’t sell as many records as you used to because of illegal downloads but I think there are other ways you can make money through music”.

Web design a start-up must for new small businesses

Web designers across the UK have bucked the tradition of declines in business over the last two years and according to Net Magazine have in fact seen business increase by 18%. Most business literature stress that a website is essential for any new small business and is now included in the business plans of almost every start-up.

Web design has become a growth industry but still too many businesses are only paying lip service to the advice given out by business experts when it comes to choosing a web designer. Too often people have fallen into the trap of paying a friend or budget website to give them a sub-standard web design for less than £100 and this has lead to a poor search engine optimization or creating a poor image for their new business.

Web design does not have to break the bank says Easybiz Sites owner Rich Copley but “small business owners should think carefully about who they are choosing to do their web design” his reasons for this are that although a website is a vital tool for businesses now “few business owners understand why they need a website”.

Small businesses need to understand what their website will do for their business in the evolving web design industry and also the pitfalls to a poor design, poor navigation and the impact it leaves on people visiting them. It not just the “thousands of pounds in lost business to consider, but how people use a website to judge the credibility and quality of service a small business is offering. This includes banks who you are wanting to lend you money, as well as those people referred to your business by word of mouth. A poor website will see them running in the opposite direction” reminds Rich.
