Music industry in need of reality check
Aug 11th
There has been much whining over recent years from some in the music industry that illegal downloading is killing the trade. But that is not very accurate and as South Park tried to point out is more based upon greed rather than being able to earn a decent living. Now it would seem that chart sensation Eliza Doolittle would agree with the fact of the matter being that the record sales are not the main source of income for any aspiring pop star.
In a recent interview she said “I would really love to make a living out of it (music) and a comfortable living if I can but it is hard these days.” Going on to say “You don’t sell as many records as you used to because of illegal downloads but I think there are other ways you can make money through music”.
Businesses duped into putting Google above Users
Aug 9th
Businesses are receiving more calls and emails encouraging them to “get to the top of Google” with a Search Engine Optimization company (SEO). But in the chase for the holy grail of number 1 in Google for your preferred search term (e.g. – affordable website designers, small business website designers, website designers in Leeds…..you get the idea) businesses are forgetting the impact on user experience when they find your website.
It is smart to choose a website design company that can combine SEO and Web design, both to a high standard. Easybiz Sites has made a point of doing both affordable website design and SEO because it is important to get the balance between SEO and a professional web design just right. With having the two separate there is a conflict of interests where the website designers methods infringe those of the SEO company and vice versa.

Small business loans row deepens over banks profits
Aug 2nd
Ministers have been urged to stop threatening banks over loans to small businesses. Andrew Tyrie the Conservative MP and chairman of the Commons Treasury Select Committee has stepped in to the row and said that banks should brace themselves for new criticism when they will reveal half year profits of around £10 billion. HSBC Have been the first to call theirs.
The RBS have tried to step the criticism by announcing that they have helped 100,000 start-up businesses with start-up loans in the past year. But this will do little to stop the anger that many small and medium size businesses are struggling to make ends meet because of a crisis that started with the banks having to write of billions of toxic debt by foolish lending to large corporations, yet are doing little to help those with much smaller needs in terms of loans to help them through a difficult period.
Many people are furious that the sums that were written off were in the billions at a time, yet small businesses are with needs of less than £100,000 are the ones that banks seem reluctant to take a risk on.
Until this issue is taken seriously by the banks, it is unlikely the onslaught onto banks about their small and medium size business lending will cease.
Facebook game launch to grow brand for business
Aug 2nd
Website giants Facebook yet again is a place chosen by big business to get more people aware of their identity. Reckitt Benckiser who’s brands include Nurofen and Cillit Bang have launched a game on Facebook that has already attracted 65,000 players in nine days.
The Facebook gaming industry is growing in an unusual way. Originally to promote games that were launching or already selling in retail stores, it is now a great way for businesses to promote their own brand. So an addictive game that everyone wants to play is a magic pot of gold for anyone with skills at making games. And they do not have to be complicated.
It is another example of the power of social networking websites like Facebook and Twitter. All marketing may take a bit of love and work to get right, and these websites are no different. But it is a free method as long as businesses keep looking to interest their target market.
Backdoor marketing strategies are a proven method already. Offer something on your website that is useful for free, promote it on Facebook and Twitter and you will find your sales rise as more people trust your products, services and prices and visit your website. Remember to have a professional web design if you want people to part with their money online though.
E-books on the rise, Internet latest
Aug 2nd
Random House the worlds largest book publisher is expecting sales of electronic books to account for more than 10% of US revenue next year.
This poses an interesting view for UK online sales of E-books that are also growing in popularity here. Many people who are on the go are looking for easy ways to select a book they want to read without the need for carrying more than one book that will take up valuable bag space.
This is another positive sign for business website designers as it is yet more proof that people are accessing the internet on the go to order books and are making use of more of the technology available to them. The world is really changing fast.
Web design a start-up must for new small businesses
Aug 2nd
Web designers across the UK have bucked the tradition of declines in business over the last two years and according to Net Magazine have in fact seen business increase by 18%. Most business literature stress that a website is essential for any new small business and is now included in the business plans of almost every start-up.
Web design has become a growth industry but still too many businesses are only paying lip service to the advice given out by business experts when it comes to choosing a web designer. Too often people have fallen into the trap of paying a friend or budget website to give them a sub-standard web design for less than £100 and this has lead to a poor search engine optimization or creating a poor image for their new business.
Web design does not have to break the bank says Easybiz Sites owner Rich Copley but “small business owners should think carefully about who they are choosing to do their web design” his reasons for this are that although a website is a vital tool for businesses now “few business owners understand why they need a website”.
Small businesses need to understand what their website will do for their business in the evolving web design industry and also the pitfalls to a poor design, poor navigation and the impact it leaves on people visiting them. It not just the “thousands of pounds in lost business to consider, but how people use a website to judge the credibility and quality of service a small business is offering. This includes banks who you are wanting to lend you money, as well as those people referred to your business by word of mouth. A poor website will see them running in the opposite direction” reminds Rich.

Google owners of YouTube said the rules violated Russias own constitutional rights. Googles’s YouTube website was not the only site banned Web.archives.org, Lib.rus.ec,Thelib.ru & Zhurnal.ru websites all carried copies of Hitler’s Mein Kampf.
Bloggers warned the regional ban could be a slippery slope to more censorship across Russia.
